Speaker evening in Nelson: Building stronger communities in Nepal

Join us for a special speaker evening on Saturday, February 18 in Nelson to celebrate our work together building stronger communities in the Everest Region of Nepal.

You’ll hear about the work of the Himalayan Trust past and present and find out how the Sir Edmund Hillary legacy lives on through your support.

We hope you can join us for drinks and nibbles, and an opportunity to meet and chat with Himalayan Trust supporters old and new.

Speakers are:

  • Sarah Hillary will talk about the vital role played by her mother, Louise Hillary, in the early work of the Himalayan Trust
  • John and Diane McKinnon will share their memories of being the very first volunteers at Kunde Hospital in the 1960s.
  • Prue Smith, Himalayan Trust General Manager, will talk about “Building Back Better” after the 2015 earthquakes.
  • Michael Riach Himalayan Trust Education Programme Manager, will share his intial impressions of schooling and early education in the Upper Khumbu region.
  • Lakpa Thering Sherpa, Managing Director of Action for Nepal, will talk about bringing safe water to communities in the Solukhumbu (pre-recorded).
  • Keri Barnett, will tell us about her adventure cycling from Cape Reinga to Bluff to raise funds for the Himalayan Trust.
