Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world and their public health system is not equipped to deal with this pandemic. Remote, rural hospitals in the Solukhumbu District, also known as the Everest region, have very limited access to personal protective equipment (PPE). Doctors and nurses are fearing for their own lives because they don’t have the PPE they need to protect themselves.
With your help we can get critical PPE and hygiene supplies to health workers in the Solukhumbu District, so they have a fighting chance against COVID-19. Please donate today. Even a small donation will help save lives by preventing the spread of COVID-19 in Nepal’s most vulnerable communities.
With its proximity to the epicentre of COVID-19 and limited resources to fight it, Nepal faces a high risk of a widespread outbreak. Right now, Nepal has just entered the community transmission phase of COVID-19, so the number of cases is likely to increase. But their rate of testing is only 7% of New Zealand’s, so there is a real chance that COVID-19 is already spreading undetected through remote communities with limited access to tests.
A widespread COVID-19 outbreak would be absolutely devastating for Nepal. We need to act now before it is too late. Please donate, your support will make a huge difference.
Through his mountaineering, Sir Ed developed a deep connection with the people of the Solukhumbu District and dedicated himself to helping them succeed. Even as we face the biggest challenge of our generation, we will continue his legacy.
